Puff's very first egg is hatching ;D! It was in the incubator up until about a week ago, when I put it under a broody silkie. The broody silkie is the young silkie (5 months) that just started laying. She layed a few eggs and then went broody. My white "Ideal" silkie decided to join her and they have been broody together in the same nest box. I also placed a few other eggs in there, but they aren't due to hatch until tomorrow and Tues. The white silkie is a great mother to her babies that she hatches. I am still going to watch this baby closely.

Still waiting . I think that I like incubators much better. At least you can check the hatching progress through windows whenever you want to .

Well, the egg hatched, but...... it wasn't Puff's egg after all. It was dark in the coop and misread the writing on the egg. It said "Buff," not "Puff." So, the egg that hatched is from the 5 month old buff silkie that is sitting on the eggs. It is obviously from my austrolorp roo. It is very cute, black, black skin, 5 toes on each foot, but very little foot feathering , so not from one of my silkie roos. All of my silkies except my white "Ideal" silkie hen have very heavy foot feathering. There is another egg that has pipped, but I didn't label it, so it probably came from my mixed coop also. I will get a picture as soon as possible.

I just candled a little bit ago. All except 3 have veins!! The 3 that aren't growing (1 polish, 1 white, and 1 cochin) have detached air cells. So, that is great stats. Only 2 more weeks of waiting ;D.

I want another polish too. C.B. needs a friend . She is one of the friendliest chickens that I have. I have to watch where I walk, because I know that she is right there next to me. She is the only chicken that I have that doesn't mind getting petted on her back. She seems to enjoy it. The others duck and run.

Isn't it funny that one of the chicks I hatched from you has become a big pet and follows me everywhere and you have one you hatched from me that is doing the same thing, thats just so neat.
