Looks like Ivan is coming to Alabama. They say when it gets here there will be winds that will reach up to 105mph. CCBMOM, I think you are going to get some of it also.

Yep, we are making a few plans on possibly evacuating (we just live too close to the coast). If we do evacuate, I will be able to take my chicks, but that is about it. We will just have to lock the others in the barn and hope for the best. We are still watching to see what it does, though. Lydia, it looks like you will be getting some of it no matter where it turns. Hopefully it will just die down like Lily did.

I have decided against putting any eggs in the bator right now. I don't know what I will do about the brooders if we loose power. I am hoping it will be warm enough in there for them.

The weather station said this morning that we were just expecting tropical storm gusts, so it looks like we are going to be fine. It was really weird here last night. At my youngest son's football practice, it would get really, really windy for a while and then would all of the sudden get really calm. Then, after a while, it would pick up again. Our towns only hotel (small, about 10 rooms) was filled with Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida people. And, they are asking all local people to stay off of I-10 so that things would run more smoothly. I think that most every hotel around here is booked and people just keep moving West trying to find someplace to stay. I know how they feel. We have done it before.
Lydia, looks like you will probably be getting a pretty bad hit from the storm. I don't blame you for not putting anything in the bator. If you do lose power, you can get those hand warmers (WalMart has them in their hunting departments) and place them in the brooder. They put off a lot of heat for about 8 hours. I keep some on hand just in case we lose power here. I don't put them in the bator though. One time when I did, the temp. went up to about 120 degrees. That was in a closed up and wrapped up incubator, so it wouldn't get that hot in a brooder.
Good luck and let us know how things go. We will be thinking about you.
