when eggs hatch without a broody ! I had several nankins laying eggs in a plastic tote in their coop. I just left them in there hoping that they would decide to start sitting. I go out to the coops several times a day to check on everything and very rarely saw them in the tote with the eggs. I don't know if they sat on them at night. It is too dark in there. Well, yesterday evening I heard cheeping and there was the cutest baby nankin in the tote. I moved the baby and other eggs to another room to get away from the roosters. I also moved two hens with them (they puffed up when I got close to the baby even though they weren't in the box with it). Well, this morning there are 6 babies (I think) that have hatched and more eggs to go. The hens have decided that they would take care of the babies. Nankins are such good moms. I guess that since our temps. have been so hot lately (heat index of 105-110) the hens just didn't need to sit on the eggs too much. I am thinking that they had to sit on them at night because our temps. get into the low 80's at night. I guess that they know better than we do. ccbmom
