Lydia and anyone else that might be in the path of this hurricane, please take care of yourselves and your families through this. We are on the west side of this thing, so we are fine here. But, it did get kind of stressful before it turned northward. It is crazy how there is all of this destruction just a few hours from here and I am looking out my back windows at the sun. We do have some bands from the storm, but they aren't causing any rain right now.
We will be thinking and praying for yall over the next few days. Take care.

Well, it tore two roofs off my chicken pens and I have damage to the shingles on my roof and have leaks now. I have called the insurance company and will be busy with them soon. Good thing was, no one was hurt.

I am so glad that everyone is alright. Sounds like it got pretty scary there. I hope that all of your animals made it alright.
Our area is full of evacuee's. There are over 2000 in the civic center in a town near here and the two small hotels in our town are full. These people have nowhere to go. I was in WalMart yesterday and talked to several people who had evacuated the New Orleans area. They all have some sad stories. We were able to get in touch with some very good friends of ours last night that we had not heard from, but some other friends are still missing. We are confident that they are fine. Their area is flooded, but not as bad as some areas. Phone service just isn't working. Hopefully we will hear something soon.
We had planned a short little trip to Baton Rouge and New Orleans on Sept. 10 to see the LSU football game and go the French Quarter. We have canceled the trip. We could still go to the game, but have decided not to. It is just too sad.

Have you gotten your serama eggs yet. I have been kinda worried about the fact that Louisianna is in such a bad state that you might not get them.

No, I haven't gotten them yet. In fact, we have only gotten two pieces of mail total since Saturday. Nobody ever dreamed that things would get this bad. Kim (Kritter11) also sent some guinea eggs and I haven't gotten them either. They said that things should be getting back to normal (mail) today. I am not sure how though. The eggs were probably sent through Baton Rouge, which is where all of the New Orleans mail is stuck at.
I will let you know as soon as it gets here.

I just got the eggs and they are in perfect condition!!! There wasn't even one dent on the box . Normally, at least the box is dented. I also got Kim's guinea eggs and they arrived in the same condition. It looks like they were sent through Dallas instead of Baton Rouge. They are resting now and will go into the incubator before too long. They are sooooo tiny!

Yes they are small, you can tell most of those eggs came from a A hen. My son has been sent out for the hurricane disaster, I just want everyone to know that we are trying to get help to Louisianna as fast as we can. He is in the guard and belive me they are giving it their all. Its hard to help under the conditions and they have been shot at which is not helping. We have some people here in Alabama that are from Louisianna and are doing all we can do for them. I just wish the Mayor of New Orleans would understand that we also have devastation here in south Alabama and then we also have to help Mississippi. Louisianna has been hit the hardest and of course is going to take longer to get everyone taken care of because it is so hard to get to them. I know they are now at this time delivering food, water and other goods to them. We are all praying for them and the guardsmen are doing their best.

Yes, New Orleans is a scary place right now. People there don't understand why nobody is coming in to help and they are getting desparate. Private citizens, even if they were let in to help, are too scared to go and help.
We did hear that my little boy's friend in Biloxi is o.k. They made it through, but we are unsure of the damage to his home. His Aunt and Uncle are on their way to see what they can do to help. Hopefully they will be able to get in. They should be back on Tuesday and are going to let us know what they need and how we can help them out. If I didn't have back problems and 3 young kids, I would have offered to go and help too.

I am like you, I have back problems but I would love to be able to go and help but on the same hand I can tell you I would be scared. When our mayor heard the hurrican might come our way, he started making arrangments right away to have places for everone to go and to assist those coming in from other states. I don't think the mayor of New Orleans thought it would be as bad as it was. I mean Alabama got generators ready and supplies ready before the storm had a chance to get here. I do know the leveys (I know I spelled that wrong) will need to be built better than they were and from what I understand a lot of the building there were not built to withstand the winds that came in there. I hope we never have this happen again but I do hope the next time they say a hurricane is comming that everyone will leave and play it safe. I am glad to hear your son's friend is ok, I know that little fellow was hurting not knowing.

When we evacuated a couple of years ago, we left the house with two weeks worth of water and can goods. And, a key to the house for all of those friends and relatives who refused to leave. They all stayed with wood frame houses. They would have been leveled had the hurricane hit here instead of turning and it was expected to hit at a 4 (It hit as a 2)! Our house is probably the strongest of all our friends and relatives and we were still not staying. People here didn't even get supplies. Everyone seems to have this "it will never happen to me" belief. That is what gets people killed.
I just wish that there was something that I could do to prepare my animals in case this thing happens again. We just can't take all of the animals with us when we do evacuate. What we did last time was leave bags of food where they could all get to and have the best chance of staying dry and hope that we could get back to them.
